The Joint Movement Against Citizenship Amendment Bill (JMACAB), a conglomeration of all tribal-based regional parties,NGOs and Students took out protest rallies in Agartala, the capital of Tripura. The protest turned violent on the second day.

Thousands of people defied curfew in Guwahati on Thursday and took to the streets, prompting police to open fire, even as protests against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill intensified in Assam.

At least 5 people lost their lives in clashes against security forces in Assam. The protests are escalating in north east and Assam over citizenship act. Violent protests are also reported from West Bengal, four days after the Bill was passed in Parliament. After strong protest across the country, home minister Amit Shah has indicated that there might be some changes in the citizenship act.
